Tom Aley, a 1955 Elgin High graduate, was inducted for basketball. During his two year varsity career, Tom had a 16.6 point per game average.  He totaled 849 points, which ranked him as the all-time leading scorer at the time.  He led the 1954-1955 team with 633 points and a 21.1 ppg average, both of which were school records.  In addition, Tom set school records with 40 points in one game and 37 in a state tournament game (vs. Arlington).   Additional EHS records included 227 free throws in a career and 175 made in a season.  The Elgin High basketball team finished 2nd in the state in the 54-55 season, with a #5 state ranking.  Tom was named to the Daily Illini's 1955 All-Tournament Sweet 16 Squad, and the Associated Press Writers recognized him as state finals First Team All-Tournament. In addition, he was named to the 1955 All-State Team by the Chicago American as well as the Chicago Daily News. Tom was recruited by coach Alvin "Doggie" Julian to attend Dartmouth College.  He was the starting center on the Al McGuire coached freshmen team that finished 19-1.  Playing center for Julian on the varsity in 56-57, the team had an 18-6 season.  Aley provided outstanding rebounding and double digit scoring in 57-58 as Dartmouth won the Ivy League championship and made it to the Final Eight in the NCAA Tournament before losing to Temple in the Eastern Regional Finals.  The team finished with a 22-5 record and was ranked in the top 10 nationally.  In his senior year (1958-1959), Dartmouth again won the Ivy League Championship and completed the season with a 20-5 record.
