Mark is Elgin High School’s all-time leading scorer in boys’ basketball.  He scored 1,536 career points, surpassing the previous high of Rick Hopkins (1,292).  He averaged 20.6 points in his 74 game career including 24.8 points and 9.4 rebounds his senior season.  An Associated Press All-State selection, an All-State Tournament choice, and second to Marcus Liberty in voting for Mr. Basketball in Illinois, Baugh finished his prep career with a 34 point effort against defending state champion King High School and Liberty in the state quarterfinals in 1987.  Mark went on to play at Iowa State for two seasons, starting 18 games and playing in 59 of 61 in that span.  He averaged 8.2 points and 2.9 rebounds for his career and was the Cyclones second leading scorer as a sophomore (1988-89) at 13.3 ppg.  During the season, he scored a career high 28 points against a highly-ranked Oklahoma team that included future NBAers Mookie Blaylock and Stacey King.  He played in both of Iowa State’s NCAA Tournament games those two seasons, including scoring 16 points against UCLA in 1989.  He set the James H. Hilton Coliseum record for best field goal percentage in a game on January 25, 1989, hitting 11 of 11 shots for the Cyclones against Western Illinois.  Later, Baugh earned Lone Star Conference Honorable Mention in 1992 for Eastern New Mexico University.  He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2000.
