Inducted as a swimmer and coach, 1969 Elgin High graduate Rick Andresen swam for the varsity for three years, during which time he qualified for the state meet each time. In 1968, Rick medaled in 4th place in the 50 yard freestyle and medaled the following year as a member of the 4th place 400-yard freestyle relay team. After swimming for four years at Southern Illinois University, Andresen returned to Elgin. He has served over 30 years as a boys' swimming coach for Elgin High, the Elgin/Larkin co-op team, and the Jacobs/Dundee co-op team. During that time, over 20 boys have qualified for state competition, with eight medalists (seven individuals and one relay team). In addition, Rick has coached the Elgin High and Elgin/Larkin girls' co-op team for 29 years. Over 40 girls have qualified for state, with seven medalists (four individuals and one relay team) and two All-State recipients. Andresen has been named the Sectional Coach of the Year in 1987, 2000, 2001, and 2006. He was also named Honor Coach Top Ten Team by the Illinois Coaching Association in 1982.
