Charlene played in the All-American Girls Baseball League, the women’s league portrayed in the film “A League of Their Own.”  She played in 335 professional games in the AAGBL, including 196 for the Rockford Peaches in 1949 and 1950.  Batting fifth in the Rockford lineup, she swung a 33-ounce Mel Ott bat and hit just .175 for her career, but .221 in 1950.  On the average, players in the AAGBL hit 100 points less than their male counterparts in the major leagues.  She played second, third and shortstop, and had a fielding percentage of .941.  She was the pivot in the league’s best infield, which helped the Peaches to the playoffs and the pennants in each of her two years in Rockford.  Charlene was featured on the cover of the Chicago Daily News “This Week” magazine in 1949.
