Deryn Carter, a 1998 graduate of Larkin High School, is inducted into the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame for Basketball. Deryn played three years of varsity basketball for Larkin.  During that time, he was named All-Conference in the Upstate 8 his junior and senior seasons, as well as All-Area each year by both the Courier News and the Daily Herald.  Carter averaged 19 points per game, four rebounds and 3.5 assists as a junior and 17.9 points, three rebounds and 3.6 assists as a senior.  His 1099 points rank him fourth in Larkin history. As a freshman at Lincoln College, Deryn was honorable mention all-conference. As a sophomore he was named all-conference and all-region at Florissant Valley Community College in Saint Louis. Following a season at Saint Louis University as a junior, Deryn played college basketball at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. As a senior he led the team in scoring with 16.7 points, assists (91) and steals (44).  At the end of that season 2001-2002, Carter was named Honorable Mention to the All Great Lakes Valley Conference team.
