Recognized for his achievements in golf, Elgin native Terry Carlson was also one of the founders of the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame. Terry served as Elgin Country Club head professional from 1973 to 1983 and Glen Oak Country club head professional from 1984 until the present. He was Illinois PGA Golf Professional of the Year in 1984 and Illinois PGA Senior Player of the Year in 1994. He served as president of the Illinois PGA in 1983. An Illinois Open participant over 25 times, Terry finished in the top 10 twelve times, including third in 1969 and fifth in 1970. He was a Radix Cup (top 10 playing pros in the state) team member seven times. He played in the 1971 Western Open and in the 1995 National PGA Championship, one of the four majors on the Senior Tour. He won the 1995 Senior Illinois Open. He qualified for the National Club Professional Tournament five times. He qualified and played on the 1996 Senior PGA Tour.
