A standout athlete at St. Edward High School, Kevin starred in both football and basketball. In football, he was All-West Suburban Catholic Conference twice, both times making the All-Academic team as well, He gained 1,597 yards from the tailback position, including 973 on 166 carries (5.9 yards per carry) his senior season of 1986. In the opener that year against Dundee-Crown, he gained a school record 274 yards on 40 carries and scored three TDs. He also starred in basketball, earning All-WSCC honors his junior and senior seasons. Kevin was co—captain his senior year and helped lead the team to the Elite Eight. St. Edward posted 45 wins over his final two years. Kevin went on to earn three varsity letters at Yale University, where he made All—Ivy League second—team as running back in 1989 when the Elis won a share of the league title. He led Yale in rushing his senior season with 546 yards and scored six TDs. He scored eight TD’s and rushed for 545 yards as a junior. His 17 career rushing TD’s ranks him seventh all— time for Yale and his five TD’s against arch—rival Harvard ties him with one other player for the most by an Eli. In 1990 he was selected second team GTE Academic All-American.
