Rodney Clifton - EHS Class of 1995 – was an all-around three sport athlete at Elgin, as he performed in baseball, football and basketball. Clifton played three seasons of varsity baseball, hitting .400, .350 and .374. He was named Upstate 8 All-Conference and All-Area his senior season for football and baseball, in addition to being Upstate 8 and Courier News Player of the Year in basketball for the conference champion Maroon team. Rodney then played baseball for Triton Junior College for one year, where he hit .369 with seven home runs and 45 runs batted in as Triton appeared in the National Junior College World Series. Following elimination, Clifton signed with the Oakland Athletics, for whom he played parts of five seasons in the Athletics system between rookie league and high Class A. Rodney then played three seasons in professional independent leagues at Adirondack, Schaumburg and Kansas City. He appeared in 648 professional games, collecting 615 hits for a batting average of .261.
